Committee Chair Tim Johansen mixed his side job and his real job/calling together in one kid-friendly Sunday Service at Temple Lutheran church. As Pastor Tim, he welcomed Pack 462, Troop 434 and all other local BSA and Girl Scout groups. He gave the kids from each group a chance to talk about how their organization helps the community. A children's Sermon made Scouts a prominent theme and there were a lot of blue Cubs uniforms from our pack and others. At the end of that discussion, a young girl was heard whispering into Tim's microphone, "How do I become a Scout?" That's the kind of memorable moment that Tim makes happen on the regular, but this time it was too good. Couldn't have been scripted better. Later 2 of our Wolves, Colin Hatton and Leo Johansen helped teach about the qualities in the Scout Law as an older scout read passages of the Bible that epitomized each of those values. Then the Girl Scouts repeated a similar sequence using their Scout mission. You can even watch the whole service on YouTube if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8XbZapuP-U
Then just 1-week later our church sponsor, Reverend William Searight led a more formal Scout Sunday at Llanerch Presbyterian. The older boys from Troop 434 capped it off with a flag ceremony. Similarly, the Reverend's sermon talked about a duty to serve and listed the ongoing efforts of the Presbyterian Church's disaster relief organization in light of the earthquake in Turkey and toxic train crash in Ohio. You can hear audio of the February 12th sermon among others here: https://www.llanerchpres.org/sermons.
