We had to adjust on the fly to accomodate the Chatham Park Art Show, but our April Pack meeting was still a great success. Well, I guess that can't truly be measured until we see just how many of our sunflower seeds sprout and grow into full-fledged Sunflowers. But we most definitely learned about gardening, planting, and the lifecycle stages of a sunflower.
We also capped that lesson off with a fun, hands-on activity which taught about recycling, while testing the kids ability to follow instructions and create a planting pot out of nothing but strips of newspaper and old Acme circulars. The pots can be transferred directly into the ground and will naturally decompose (as long as they remove any non-biodegradable tape first). So far we are hearing reports of sprouting and awaiting Mother's day to plant outside.
