Hot food. Cool floats.

Pack 462 really came together for the 2023 Heritage Festival. We nearly sold out of sausage sandwiches, used up all but a case of loose sodas, and powered through over 3 gallons of ice cream. Not gonna talk $$ signs online, but we can definitely chalk it up as a fundraising success.

On behalf of the leadership committee, I sincerely thank all the parents and kids who helped make this happen.

Chef Rich Pepino helped us prepare the most ambitious menu ever in Pack 462 history: 2 types of sausage sandwiches (Beer brats with caramelized onions and dijon mustard OR Italian-sausage with peppers/onions and provolone). Even the drinks were dialed up to dessert class. Standard sodas and waters became optional ice cream floats in 4 varieties: classic Root Beer floats, Coke floats, Orange Creamsicles, and Purple Cows (grape). The Italian Sausage was the top seller of the hot food options and root beer floats were the best sellers. We needed to make a run for 36 extra cans. And orange creamsicles were the hit among our Scouts.

We had 5 shifts of kids and parents alongside us, and we manned them all! The kids served as salespeople, food runners, soda/water delivery, cashiers, and some even made the floats. Either Chef Rich or Pastor Tim kept the grill cooking, while we had a shift system of parents on the cutting/cheesing table. I won't name drop our Sous chefs, but you are much appreciated. Meanwhile, other adults and older siblings were equally busy scooping ice cream and assisting our sales scouts. It was a group effort and most of the kids enjoyed it, we had to quiet them down from their "Hot food, cool floats" sales pitch, especially when there were live singing acts on the nearby stage. The kids also enjoyed the festival in general, you can see the Garretts climbing on a Brookline fire engine, and our first shift of sales folk got a visit from the Falconer and his very friendly owl. The 3rd shift enjoyed making balloons out of our latex gloves. And toward the end of the day, we had kids playing in Cobbs Creek behind us—but for the most part they were too busy selling and we didn't want them coming back to sell after that. Proof that fun and fundraising can go hand in hand. Thanks to the Pack and the community for making this one a success.
